Western wear is part of the Levi\u2019s DNA, and the brand\u2019s Pride 2024 collection takes inspiration from queer \u201cRainbow Rodeos\u201d that originated in Nevada in the 1970s. Pulling graphics and influences from vintage Levi\u2019s pieces and archival posters then adding some glitz \u2013 rhinestones, copper thread, marbled hardware, gold-coated denim and more \u2013 the collection includes an extensive assortment of tops, bottoms and accessories.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the Cropped Muscle Tank and 517\u2122 Bootcut Jeans to the Liberation Western Trucker and matching 501\u00ae &#8217;93 Cut-Off Shorts<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Western-inspired embroidery and rainbow colouring give the collection a cohesive and euphoric rodeo look. My work is a soft, intimate exploration of queerness and masculinity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Levi\u2019s Pride collection takes inspiration from the queer \u201cRainbow Rodeos\u201d that originated in Nevada in the \u201870s. What does \u201cRainbow Rodeo\u201d mean to you?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I first thought of this, I really thought of colourful horses and ponies. It made me think of My Little Pony, which was everything to me growing up. I was that kid in the toy store that would be in the \u2018girls\u2019 aisle, the pink aisle. I&#8217;ve always known that I was quite different. I didn&#8217;t gravitate towards \u2018boys\u2019 toys. When I think of \u201cRainbow Rodeo\u201d, I think of colourful, camp ponies. I think that correlates to how we as queer people present ourselves, adorning our hairstyles or our outfits.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Levi\u2019s Pride collection queers the codes of western wear through glitz and rainbow colours. How does style facilitate your self-expression?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accessories and colours are very important to me. I like to be fun and elegant at the same time. I love little details, like getting my nails done or having fun prints and patterns in my outfits. That\u2019s how I tap into my self expression.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Do you have any words of advice to fellow queer creatives on how to live their best and boldest life?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be unapologetically yourself. Uplift your community. And don&#8217;t forget the battles of the people that came before you. That usually includes modelling, dancing, being an active member of the ballroom scene, and includes honing in all the creativity I&#8217;ve acquired from fashion, and from other scenes, into one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Levi\u2019s Pride collection takes inspiration from the queer \u201cRainbow Rodeos\u201d that originated in Nevada in the \u201870s. What does \u201cRainbow Rodeo\u201d mean to you?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I&#8217;ve been trying to find a more precise definition for myself and \u201cRainbow Rodeo\u201d, but I think giving country and rodeo a queer perspective. It\u2019s an element of flipping the masculinity of [rodeo] and reversing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Levi\u2019s Pride collection queers the codes of western wear through glitz and rainbow colours. How does style facilitate your self-expression?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Style allows me to tap into the mood I&#8217;m trying to express in a moment in time. So from this collection, I can see elements of metal, of denim, big hair, big hats and fun accessories.\u00a0 A lot of my personal style is very expressive.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Do you have any words of advice to fellow queer creatives on how to live their best and boldest life?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stop caring about what people think! I really need to just be blunt with it. At the end of the day, we&#8217;ve got one life to live. What does \u201c<\/b><b>Rainbow Rodeo\u201d<\/b><b> mean to you?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRainbow Rodeo\u201d makes me think, \u2018This ain\u2019t my first time at the rodeo\u2019. I have giddy-upped, yeehawed before. But first rodeos, questioning rodeos, confused rodeos, shy rodeos, disabled rodeos, Black and Brown rodeos are always welcome \u2013 everybody fills their cowboy boots over time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Levi\u2019s Pride collection queers the codes of western wear through glitz and rainbow colours. How does style facilitate your self-expression?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Misogyny means we underestimate the power of clothes, make up and putting on silly little outfits. I love wearing suits on stage and bringing a professional business aesthetic to a DIY queer space. It feels like a beautiful critique of British white patriarchy. \u2018Smart\u2019 clothing always felt oppressive and restrictive to me so it feels good to reclaim it and make it overtly gay.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Do you have any words of advice to fellow queer creatives on how to live their best and boldest life?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whatever you can\u2019t stop doing is what you should be doing. Listen to the tiny voice in your head that says \u2018oh maybe that could be fun\u2019 then feed her all your chips and read him a bedtime story until they completely take over.
