Sasha Colby is the recipient of the\u00a0GAY TIMES\u00a0<\/em>Honour for Drag Hero.<\/p>\n

Back in January, the Hawaiian queen finally – we repeat, finally!\u00a0<\/em>– graced the\u00a0RuPaul’s Drag Race\u00a0<\/em>werkroom, where she became an instant frontrunner for the crown. One of the drag community’s most revered entertainers, Sasha memorably conquered Miss Continental and went viral on various occasions – most notably with her Beyonc\u00e9 medley from 2014<\/a> and performance at Sasha Velour’s\u00a0Nightgowns.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

Sasha more than lived up to her name with four maxi-challenge wins – more than any other competitor – and was later crowned ‘America’s Next Drag Superstar,\u00a0making herstory in the process as the first trans women of colour to win the series.<\/p>\n

When Sasha covered\u00a0GAY TIMES\u00a0<\/em>in March, she said: \u201cI\u2019m not trying to sound verbose or anything, but I think <\/span>Drag Race<\/span><\/i> needed someone like me. It was my responsibility to represent every trans girl that I look up to and the trans girls that aren\u2019t here anymore. It was a level of, \u2018Yes, I would love to be on the show\u2019 but it was very much, \u2018I need to do this for us.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Following her win, Sasha has continued to conquer. Over the past few months, she’s appeared in Vogue <\/em>and covered publications such as i-D, Numero Netherlands\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Billboard.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Sasha’s also continued to use her platform to speak out against harmful anti-trans rhetoric and the onslaught of anti-LGBTQIA+ bills in the US, in addition to raising awareness of the fires that ravaged Hawaii in an interview on KTLA Entertainment.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cMy life has changed completely and every day is different,\u201d Sasha Colby tells <\/span>GAY TIMES.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u201cI\u2019ve had a lot of new and exciting opportunities that have really allowed my dreams to come true.”<\/span><\/p>\n

On winning\u00a0Drag Hero,\u00a0<\/em>she adds:\u00a0\u201cIt means the world,\u201d she tells us. \u201cI am honored to be a drag hero to many that feel that there isn’t a lot of hope or acceptance. Being able to be a beacon of light in dark times is quite a privilege.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
