{"id":202279,"date":"2021-07-30T01:50:31","date_gmt":"2021-07-30T01:50:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gaytimes.co.uk\/?p=202279"},"modified":"2021-07-30T15:58:58","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T15:58:58","slug":"keiynan-lonsdale-is-set-to-star-in-new-lgbtq-film-my-fake-boyfriend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gaytimes.com\/culture\/keiynan-lonsdale-is-set-to-star-in-new-lgbtq-film-my-fake-boyfriend\/","title":{"rendered":"Keiynan Lonsdale is set to star in new LGBTQ+ film My Fake Boyfriend"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Love, Simon star Keiynan Lonsdale is set to star in the upcoming LGBTQ+ romantic comedy My Fake Boyfriend.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to a report from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/keiynan-lonsdale-dylan-sprouse-sarah-hyland-my-fake-boyfriend-1234989185\/\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, the movie will also feature Dylan Sprouse and Sarah Hyland and is a collaborative project between BuzzFeed and Lionsgate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Under the film&#8217;s official description, &#8220;a young man in a tricky situation, who follows the advice of his unconventional best friend (Sprouse) and uses social media to create a fake boyfriend to keep his awful ex-lover out of his life. But everything backfires when he meets the real love of his life, and breaking up with his fake boyfriend proves hard to do.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Rose Troche, best know for her work on The L Word, Snowpiercer and Shameless, has been tapped to direct the project.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">BuzzFeed&#8217;s Head of Studio Richard Alan Reid expressed his excitement about the film in a statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;There is no better person to tell this queer love story than Rose Troche, and we&#8217;re delighted to partner with Lionsgate to share this story with millennial and Gen Z audiences around the world,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">VP of Co-Productions and acquisition Lauren Bixby echoed similar sentiments about the film, stating: &#8220;My Fake Boyfriend has the heart, laughs and talent behind the scenes and in front of the camera that makes this film a genuine win.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">She continued: &#8220;We couldn&#8217;t be more thrilled to be partnering with our friends at BuzzFeed on this fun romantic comedy.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Lonsdale is no stranger to heartwarming and relatable LGBTQ+ films.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The 29-year-old actor won the hearts of moviegoers as the lovable soccer player Bram Greenfield in the 2018 hit Love, Simon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gaytimes.co.uk\/culture\/keiynan-lonsdale-love-simon-interview\/\">In a exclusive interview with Gay Times,<\/a> Lonsdale spoke about the impact of the project \u2013 which became the first film by a major Hollywood studio to focus on a gay teenage romance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWe knew it was going to be really important to people,\u201d Keiynan admitted. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t until we actually watched the film \u2013 because I guess while we were making it we were just nervous, and everyone\u2019s hopeful that we\u2019re going to get it right and tell this story correctly \u2013 so then when we watched it we were like, \u2018Oh we did!\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cEvery person involved did exactly what they were supposed to do. This movie was clearly supposed to be made, and I knew at that moment that this would help change things for so many people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Keiynan also said it\u2019s \u201c100%\u201d time for a queer superhero on the big screen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWhen you have Superman and Batman and all these people that kids look up to and think, \u2018Wow, you\u2019re perfect and amazing and a superhero,\u2019 we need to see that very very clearly for a queer character on the big screen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThen LGBTQ can know that yeah, you as well, just as these other people, are also larger than life.
