Six LGBTQIA+ artists are set to release a single in tribute to The Vivienne.

Bentley Robles, Bimini, Eden Hunter, Janethan and Tia Kofi have joined forces on ‘Your Light Will Shine’, with all proceeds benefiting Switchboard, the national LGBTQIA+ support line that recently marked its 50th anniversary.

Due for release on 17 September, the song was written by The Vivienne’s close friend and manager, Simon Jones, who said he wanted to honour the late Drag Race UK winner’s “lasting legacy” while also raising “vital funds for a charity that does so much for our community”.

“Viv was a trailblazer and a one off, and in this song we celebrate their life but also remind everyone that right now we need to be united as a community and fight for our love more than ever,” he said in a statement.

“I’m so grateful to the amazing music artists who have given their time and talent to create this beautiful pop song.”

The Vivienne — born James Lee Williams — tragically passed away in January 2025 after suffering a cardiac arrest associated with a ketamine overdose.

Last month, World of Wonder released a documentary titled Dear Viv, celebrating her trailblazing legacy within the Drag Race franchise — from her historic win as the first UK champion to her return as the first international queen to compete on a U.S. season, All Stars 7.

BBC

Directed by Pete Williams, the film includes interviews with the star’s loved ones, including the following Drag Race stars: Baga Chipz, Blu Hydrangea, Cheryl Hole, Crystal, Danny Beard, Michael Marouli, Monét X Change, Raja, Tia Kofi and Trinity the Tuck.

Dear Viv also addresses the circumstances surrounding her death, particularly in light of her sister Chanel Williams becoming an outspoken advocate against ketamine use in the months since.

In a statement, World of Wonder co-founder Fenton Bailey said: “I think it’s really important not to shy away from that, not only because there wasn’t anyone more full of life than The Viv… but I think it’s important for people to know that the dangers of drugs. There’s no judgment here at all.

“But I think there is no harm in telling the truth, and I also believe Viv would really want that. Viv would not want us to hide anything.”

Dear Viv is now streaming in the UK on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer, and internationally on WOW Presents Plus.

Drag superstar Bimini Bon Boulash has opened up about their struggles with addiction.

Back in 2021, the beloved talent first made waves with Drag Race fans after sashaying into the workroom for the second season of the UK-based series.

During their time in the competition, Bimini wowed viewers with their stunning runway ensembles, comedic talent, and lovable personality.

Since their show-stopping debut in the Drag Race sphere, Bimini’s star has continued to rise within the entertainment industry.

However, the 31-year-old’s journey to megastardom has been far from easy.

In a recent episode of their podcast, The Pieces, Bimini got candid about their battle with addiction.

“There have been some incredible amazing opportunities, and I’ve got to do some things that I can only ever have dreamed of, but over those years, I’ve battled with addiction, and depression and anxiety, and it’s been a continued cycle,” they tearfully revealed.

“I’ve really struggled to get a grasp on and accept and admit, and I felt so much shame and, at times, didn’t know where to go or where to look, and I felt weak, and I lost myself, but I can’t continue that cycle anymore, and I need to break it.”

Bimini went on to reveal that they first struggled with drugs and alcohol in their early 20s but were able to overcome it for eight years.

“I felt like I was strong. I still had things that maybe I hadn’t dealt with internally, but I’d got over that at one point and I was very proud of myself, and that’s when I kind of got into doing drag after that. It was amazing,” they continued.

While Bimini was able to move past their addiction struggles at the time, they were drawn back into old patterns following their success on Drag Race UK.

“After Drag Race, I couldn’t even fathom what just happened. I was getting to do such amazing things, and it was crazy. I was so grateful. I remember shooting four covers in a month, and I’m like a little queer working-class kid from Great Yarmouth who could only have dreamt of this,” they tearfully explained.

“And I just couldn’t cope well. I felt so much pressure. I felt almost like a fraud like I didn’t deserve it. There’s so much I want to do with this good, and there’s so much still that I want to do, but I slipped back into a cycle.”

Bimini went on to say that they were given access to a world they thought they were ready for.

However they ended up being “chewed up and spat back out” by powerful male industry figures who would “dangled their career” in front of them.

“I was silenced, and it affected me in such a dark way that I couldn’t cope, and I didn’t know what to do anymore because I was still working,” they said.

The London-based talent also shed some light on their mental health, which they said took a major hit after she discovered friends gossiping about her addiction troubles.

“There was a lot of gossip within the community about what I was going through and my troubles with addiction and my troubles with drugs, and they were from friends that I felt really hurt by,” Bimini explained.

Towards the end of the episode, Bimini admitted that their battle is far from over, adding that they experience both good and bad days.

“It’s been a really kind of difficult few years. It’s been hard to admit that I’m an addict. But I’m not [giving] that power anymore,” they said.

“I have a substance abuse disorder, and this is something that is ongoing and something that I am trying my hardest to battle with and deal with. I will get there, and I know I will.

“I can’t keep continuing the cycle, and that pattern, and it needs to break. And the only way to do that is to admit that I have a problem. And there’s power there.”

The queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK say it’s “time for a UK-only All Stars”.

At DragCon UK (10 January), nine legendary contestants from across the British series correctly told GAY TIMES that Drag Race UK is long overdue, and named the queens that should sashay into the werkroom for a second – and in some cases, third – shot at the crown.

“There’s been so many of us, we’re ready,” said Divina De Campo, who memorably placed runner-up on the show’s first-ever season.

“Look, they’ve gotta ask me. If the question is there, then I make the decision. If the question is not there, I don’t make the decision, which means there hasn’t been a question, because I haven’t made the decision yet.”

“I’m going, I’m ready!” Divina continued, before joking: “I’m less crazy than I was [last time]. I’m on the meds. I’m fine. I’d totally pass the psych exam this time!”

Baga Chipz, Divina’s co-star who returned for UK vs the World season one, placing third, said: “The calibre’s not as good over here… I’m only joking! There’s been at least five queens [on Drag Race UK] that could do it.”

The two-time Snatch Game winner added: “You’ve only got to phone me, World of Wonder. I don’t have to win, but if you need a TV show making, I’ll supply the goods.”

Alexis Saint Pete (season five), Charra Tea (season six), Choriza May (season three, UK vs the World season two), Ella Vaday (season three), Kate Butch (season five), Le Fil (season four, Canada vs the World season two), and Victoria Scone (season four, Canada vs the World season one) shared the same sentiments.

Le Fil revealed that he wants to see “loads of Asian people” cast on the series, as well as season four’s Pork Chop, Just May.

Charra vouched for her season six sister (and boyfriend!) Actavia, before hilariously theorising: “But then I wouldn’t wanna compete ‘cause I would go home first. Well, I said Actavia so I’d probably go home second.”

RuPaul honoured The Vivienne during the opening of DragCon UK 2025.

On 10 January, the beloved drag expo kicked off its two-day extravaganza at the ExCel London convention centre.

Like in previous years, the event featured showstopping performances, gag-worthy reunions, meet-and-greets, and sickening, one-of-a-kind merchandise.

However, before attendees could sink their teeth into the DragCon UK festivities, RuPaul delivered a heartwarming speech honouring the late drag performer The Vivienne.

“We want to focus on love, and we are going to remember our dear The Vivienne with love, life, and happiness because that’s what she was all about,” Ru said to the packed crowd.

“She would love for you to live your lives, to be free, to have a lot of fun and to spread it around.”

It didn’t take long for fans to flock to social media to celebrate Ru’s heartfelt speech and honour The Vivienne’s life.

One fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote, “I was there, and it was incredibly moving, especially when all the season 1 queens were on stage. The Vivienne will forever be our first queen.”

Another person tweeted: “I still can’t believe it. It seems so unreal without her. Fuck.”

In addition to Ru’s heartfelt tribute, the event also featured a memorial booth for The Vivienne, where attendees could pay tribute to the beloved talent and share condolences.

News of The Vivienne’s tragic passing was first announced on 5 January by her publicist, Simon Jones.

“It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved James Lee Williams – The Vivienne, has passed this weekend,” Jones said in a statement on social media.

“James was an incredibly loved, warm-hearted and amazing person. Their family are heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career.

“We will not be releasing any further details. We please ask that James’s family are given the time and privacy they now need to process and grieve.”

Jones’ post was met with shock and sadness from thousands of fans, celebrities and Drag Race alumni such as Ashley Roberts, Bianca Del Rio, Bimini, Bosco, Crystal, Harriet Rose, Jonbers Blonde, Kitty Scott-Claus, Marisha Wallace, Michelle Visage and Tayce.

RuPaul also joined “the entire Drag Race universe in mourning the loss of The Vivienne,” whom he described on Instagram as an “incredibly talented queen and a lovely human being.”

The Vivienne rose to fame in 2019 as the winner of the first-ever season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. Three years later, she made an iconic return for All Stars 7, the franchise’s first winners’ season, making history as the first international contestant to crossover to the U.S. series.

In addition to becoming one of the most popular queens in the Drag Race franchise, she made waves for her work in other TV series such as I Like to Watch UK, Celebrity Juice, Celebrity Mastermind, Celebrity Karaoke Club and Emmerdale.

Lastly, in 2023, she made TV history by competing in the 15th season of the popular celebrity ice skating series Dancing on Ice, becoming the first drag queen to do so.

In a separate Instagram post, Visage described the news as “heartbreaking”.

“I don’t know how to say how I feel. My darling @thevivienne_ we go back to when I started coming over here to the UK. You were always there, always laughing, always giving, always on point,” she wrote.

“Your laughter, your wit, your talent, your drag. I loved all of it but I loved your friendship most of all. You were a beacon to so many.

“Seeing you make your West End debut was amazing for me to witness your dream come true right in front of my eyes, I’m the lucky one to have known you and to have laughed together with you so many times.”

Visage ended her post with the following: “I love you my darling. You will be so missed my lovely. May your light shine fiercely, forever. RIP MY ANGEL fly high.”

In addition to Visage’s heartbreaking statement, Drag Race’s official social media accounts wrote: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of The Vivienne. Her talent, humor, and dedication to the art of drag was an inspiration.

“She will be dearly missed, but her legacy will live on as a beacon of creativity and authenticity – she embodied what it means to be a true champion. Our hearts go out to her family and fans during this difficult time.”

The Vivienne rose to fame as the winner of the first-ever season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019. Three years later, she made an iconic return for All Stars 7, the franchise’s first winners’ season, making history in the process as the first international contestant to crossover to the U.S. series.

Following her victory, The Vivienne quickly became one of the UK’s most recognisable drag entertainers, with appearances on shows such as Celebrity Juice, Emmerdale, Celebrity Mastermind, Celebrity Karaoke Club, and I Like to Watch UK.

In 2023, she made history again as the first drag artist to compete on Dancing on Ice, where she placed third.

Our hearts go out to The Vivienne’s friends and family during this incredibly difficult time.

She’s an actress, baby!

On 26 December, Paramount + dropped its new romantic comedy series, The Road Trip, written and created by Ryan O’Sullivan and Matilda Wnek.

Based on Beth O’Leary’s book of the same name, the show follows Addie (Emma Appleton) and her sister Deb (Isabella Laughland) as they travel from Bristol to Spain to attend a wedding.

However, their epic trip comes to a screeching halt when Addie’s “knackered VW campervan is unexpectedly rear-ended by a Porsche “containing her ex, Dylan (Laurie Davidson), and his obnoxious best friend Marcus (David Jonsson).

The synopsis adds: “Addie and Dylan haven’t spoken since their messy breakup but – headed to the same wedding and with best man Dylan’s ride totalled – Addie agrees to put their differences aside and travel together.

“A thousand miles is a long time to be stuck in a campervan with so much buried history though, especially when you’re on your way back to the exact place you first fell in love. The mystery of Addie and Dylan’s breakup looms large. What really did happen? Why have they had no contact? Who, if anyone, was to blame? It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

In addition to the stellar lead cast, the series also included a fabulous appearance from Drag Race UK runner-up Michael Marouli.

Appearing in episode five, the beloved drag talent showcases her charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent as the host of a Karaoke Eurovision Night at Hotel Casa Reino Unido.

Of course, her performance is full of hilarious moments, especially her cheeky interactions with Addie, who interrupts the event and drunkenly heckles the various singers on stage.

Michael’s guest appearance has been celebrated by fans and her Drag Race peers, including UK season one star Divina de Campo.

“This is great, but let’s all be real. Do not try to take a mic out of a drag queens hand. It will not end well, she commented on Instagram.

Before landing her aforementioned role on The Road Trip, Michael memorably competed on the fifth season of Drag Race UK, delivering a plethora of iconic moments such as her brutal roast and touching makeover of Switchboard volunteer Peter, as well as her Disaster Class with fellow finalists Tomara Thomas and Ginger Johnson.

After winning three maxi-challenges, Michael placed runner-up to Ginger in one of the tightest races the franchise has ever seen.

In October, the Geordie icon revealed to GAY TIMES expressed an interest in returning for a UK edition of Drag Race All Stars, adding that “it’s about time.”

“It would go off. I think it would be so successful, so huge. Can you imagine seeing all those personalities back together on our screen? Especially queens that didn’t get the crown? she exclaimed before naming fan favourites such as season two alumni A’Whora, Bimini and Tayce.

“Yeah, a UK All Stars would be incredible. If the gay gods are listening, the drag gods, the powers-that-be, we want a UK All Stars.”

The Road Trip is now streaming on Paramount + in the UK.

Spoilers ahead for the grand finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season six.

We have a winner, baby! RuPaul has crowned the UK’s Next Drag Superstar.

For their final maxi-challenge, the top four queens – Kyran Thrax, La Voix, Rileasa Slaves and Marmalade – were tasked with “taking the piss out of a grand finale song worthy of Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Michelle McManus”.

Like previous Drag Race UK finales, the ladies were tasked to write and record their own winning verses and learn an intricate dance routine from acclaimed choreographer Aaron Renfree.

“And when you’re not being busy being drag pop idols, you’ll sit down and Spill the Tea with Michelle Visage and me,” Ru added.

After coming up with their comedic verses and taking part in emotional sit-downs with Ru and Michelle –  the queens headed to dance rehearsal with Aaron to learn their dynamic choreography.

While Rileasa and Kyran effortlessly grasped the routine, Marmalda and La Voix seemingly struggled to land their moves.

Fortunately, their confusion didn’t last long, with the two talents picking up the dance choreo towards the end of rehearsal.

The next day, the final four returned to the workroom to prepare for their last maxi-challenge and impending coronation extravaganza.

However, during their preparation, Drag Race UK season five winner Ginger Johnson stopped by to share some helpful advice.

“I was terrified about our final performance because we all know I’m not exactly a dancer. But you just gotta dig down and find it because you never know,” Ginger encouraged the ladies.

“But I must say, some of my best memories of being in this big pink box of dreams are from this last day because it’s a chance to sort of reflect a little bit.”

Following their chat with Ginger, the ladies headed to the main stage to showcase their charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent in the grand finale song, ‘A Different Winners Story.’

Unsurprisingly, Rileasa, La Voix, Marmalade and Kyran delivered spectacular verses filled with creative, comedic, inspirational and cheeky lyrics.

After prancing down the runway in their “Grand Finale Eleganza” ensembles and receiving praise from the judges’ panel, the final four queens went backstage to untuck and vote for this season’s Miss Congeniality with their season six sisters. In the end, Charra Tea secured the coveted title.

When Ru asked if she had anything to say following her win, the Northern Irish queen joked: “Wait till they see what I said about them behind their backs… No, I love you all so much, so thank you.”

After naming Charra Miss Congeniality of season six, Ru wasted no time dwindling down the “top four” to the “top two.”

“My final four queens, when I call your name, please step forward,” Ru ominously exclaimed.

“Rileasa… Marmalade, I’m sorry, my dears, but this is not your time. You are both fabulous queens with bright futures. Thank you for a truly sickening season.”

With La Voix and Kyran as the last queens standing, Ru tasked them with performing one final lip sync to Queen’s hit song ‘Don’t Stop Me Now.’

Throughout their dazzling performance, the two talents delivered drama, camp, guitar reveals, playful choking, splits, and showstopping stage choreography that captivated the judge’s panel and eliminated contestants.

Unfortunately, only one queen could take home the crown, sceptre, and £25,000 cash prize.

After a suspenseful few seconds, RuPaul named Kyran the winner of Drag Race UK season six.

“From now on, everyday is bin collection day,” Kyran said during her acceptance speech.

In a confessional, the London-based performer added: “This is a more than a dream come true. This is the accomplishment of a lifetime,” she added in a confessional. “I never felt so proud of my entire life.”

Shortly after the episode, viewers flocked to social media to share their reactions to the larger-than-life finale and Kyran’s win.

One viewer on X/Twitter wrote: “Oh UK S6, the season you have been.”

Another fan tweeted: “Eventually, they need to do an “All Stars: Top Tier” edition. Sapphira Cristál and La Voix would be the first queens on the list. Let’s throw Jujubee in there, too!”

A third fan added: “Unlike season two, where I felt the one I wanted to win didn’t get crowned ( I was rooting Bimini ). This time, the right queen won. So Kyran being crowned, was the perfect ending to what was the best UK season yet!”

You can watch all ten episodes of Drag Race UK season six on BBC iPlayer.

On 12 November, the Drag Race UK star was announced for the 2024 Christmas Special, becoming the first drag artist to appear as a Strictly contestant in the process.

“I cannot wait to sleigh on the Strictly Ballroom floor. My partner and I are going to dance for our lives!” said Tayce.

“In all seriousness, it’s an incredible honour to be the first Drag artist to be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing. I hope I do all of my Drag Race and Welsh fans proud! Sign me up for all the glitz, glam and discoballs.”

The BBC also said in a statement. “Expect festive cheer, jingle bells, mistletoe madness, bedazzling baubles and six celebrities all sleighing their way to Elstree in a bid to be crowned the Strictly Christmas Champion 2024.”

Tayce will be paired with professional dancer Kai Widdrington, who conquered the 2022 Christmas Special. Their song will be ‘A Hundred Degrees’ by Kylie Minogue.

During her appearance on Strictly: It Takes Two, Tayce told host Fleur East that she will “bring the electric, the drama, the je-ne-sais-quoi, the passion and the fashion”, adding: “I’ve honestly got most of the routine down already, so buckle up princess because it’s going to be a bumpy ride!”

The remaining contestants will be announced on Strictly: It Takes Two “in due course”.

Tayce memorably rose to fame as a contestant on the second season of Drag Race UK (2020), where she cemented her status as one of the franchise’s fiercest lip-sync assassins. She ultimately placed runner-up to Lawrence Chaney.

Following her stint on the series, the “Naomi Campbell of Drag” signed with Europe’s largest modelling agency, Models 1, and subsequently walked for brands such as Richard Quinn, The Blonds and EgonLab and modelled for Jean Paul Gaultier.

Since 2021, Tayce has co-hosted the MTV series Queerpiphany, which returns for a fourth season later this month, alongside trans activist Munroe Bergdorf. She has also launched her music career with the acclaimed rap anthem ‘Swagzilla’.

Tayce’s historic participation on Strictly was met with overwhelming praise from Drag Race alumni such as Bimini, Danny Beard, Divina De Campo, Ella Vaday, Envy Peru, Jaida Essence Hall, Kitty Scott-Claus, Kween Kong, Le Fil, Lemon, Michael Marouli, Morphine Love Dion and Tia Kofi.

Drag Race UK judge Michelle Visage referenced her controversial elimination from Strictly‘s 17th season as she joked: “DON’T VOGUE.”

Courtney Act, who placed runner-up on the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars, wrote: “If I wasn’t so jealous I’d be happy for you.”

Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 2024 airs Christmas Day on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Michael Marouli reveals that she will ‘come for blood’ on a potential season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK All Stars.

In an interview with GAY TIMES, the Northern entertainer correctly says it’s “about time” for the British franchise to receive an All Stars equivalent (UK vs the World doesn’t count…) because of the sheer “calibre of queens” that have been introduced over six seasons.

“It would go off. I think it would be so successful, so huge. Can you imagine seeing all those personalities back together on our screen? Especially queens that didn’t get the crown?” says Michael, before naming fan-favourites such as season two alumni A’Whora, Bimini and Tayce.

“Yeah, a UK All Stars would be incredible. If the gay gods are listening, the drag gods, the powers-that-be, we want a UK All Stars.

Michael memorably competed on the fifth season of Drag Race UK, delivering a plethora of iconic moments such as her brutal roast and touching makeover of Switchboard volunteer Peter, as well as her Disaster Class with fellow finalists Tomara Thomas and Ginger Johnson. (Uhh-huh, ergh-huh!)

After winning three maxi-challenges, Michael placed runner-up to Ginger in one of the tightest races the franchise has ever seen.

“I had such a fire in my belly and I wanted it so much,” she explains. “Not winning the crown poured gasoline on the fire. So now I’m like, ‘Get me back on All Stars, get me the crown and let’s have a ball!’ I’m coming for blood, baby.”

However, Michael admits that she would “hate” to participate in the spin-off’s twist, which sees the top All Star of the week send one of the bottom queens’ packin’ with the reveal of their lipstick.

“How do you do that?” she says. “People are like, ‘It’s the game, you play it.’ But how can you physically say, ‘I’m crushing your dreams’? It’s awful.”

Hilariously, Michael jokes (?) that she wouldn’t have an issue chopping her season five and Northern bestie Tomara from the competition: “I wouldn’t even hesitate. I’d be like, ‘I’m sick of the fucking sight of you bitch, off you pop!'”

Michael is currently celebrating the release of her podcast with Tomara, the brilliantly titled OneMikeDoubleTheTAn instant success, the Drag Race UK recap series debuted at number-two on the Apple Podcast TV Reviews chart.

Four episodes in, the podcast has been widely lauded for Michael and Tomara’s chemistry and insightful commentary on season six, as well as their quintessentially foul-mouthed Northern humour.

Before she entered the Drag Race werkroom, Michael says she yearned to find someone she could “bounce off and be stupid and daft with”. She found that in Tomara, the “craziest, wildest, stupidest bitch I’ve ever met”.

“Day one in the werkroom, I sat next to her like, ‘We’re gonna get on like a house on fire.’ So, it was a no-brainer with the podcast. We just talk shite and laugh,” she says. “We’re exactly how we are at home, so let’s do it on camera. Why not?”

As well as the podcast, Michael is re-opening the library for her Christmas Roast Tourwhich begins 1 December in Southampton and concludes 12 December in Glasgow. Describing it as “one for the history books”, Michael teases an “absolutely hilarious and no-holds-barred” show for fans, one that will keep the “juice and the filth” that the BBC edited out of her roast challenge on Drag Race.

And, next year, she will continue to spread Northern terror around the UK with Tomara and Ginger for a second leg of their acclaimed and sold-out Angels of the North Tourand will co-star with Tomara in the adult pantomime, Snow White & the Seven Drag Queens. (Sign us the f**k up, seriously.)
