Alexander Skarsgård has revealed that his past experiences with both ‘men and women’ had no relevance on his performance in the gay BDSM film, Pillion.

The film, directed by Harry Lighton in his feature debut, stars the True Blood icon as Ray, the handsome leader of a gay motorbike club who becomes the dom to Colin (Henry Melling), a reserved “wallflower letting life pass him by”.

When discussing his role at the Zurich Film Festival, Skarsgård emphasised that his personal experiences with both men and women were not relevant to his performance: “I found that in this case, it’s not really relevant what my background is.

“I mean, I do have a kid, but what I’ve done in the past, who I’ve been with, men, women… To me, what was important was that this felt like an opportunity to tell a story about a subculture I hadn’t seen portrayed this way – with so much authenticity.

“My experience of watching this on screen was through [Al Pacino starrer] Cruising, where it’s this dark underbelly of New York City and it’s dangerous, murderous and scary. Leather gays are scary.”

While Skarsgård shared that he’s “no Ray”, he revealed that he has “a little bit of experience from that world, and I know that’s not a truthful depiction”.

The official synopsis for Pillion is as follows: “Ray uproots Colin from his dreary suburban life, introducing him to a community of kinky, queer bikers and taking all sorts of virginities along the way.

“But as Colin steps deeper into Ray’s world of rules and mysteries, he begins to question whether the life of a 24/7 submissive is for him. Has he found his calling, or simply swapped one form of suffocation for another?”

In the first trailer, released on 1 October, Colin and Ray’s sub-dom dynamic is on full display: Ray refuses to let Colin sit beside him at dinner, saving the seat instead for his Rottweiler, Colin squeals in pain/pleasure during a bonkers wrestling match, and he’s even tasked with running errands for Ray.

The trailer culminates with Ray instructing Colin to buy a butt plug because he’s “too tight”, prompting Colin to hilariously stammer: “Yeah, erm… lovely! That sounds like a plan… Bye then.”

Pillion, based on the novel Box Hill by Adam Mars-Jones, also stars Douglas Hodge as Pete, Lesley Sharp as Peggy, Anthony Welsh as Darren and Scissor Sisters star Jake Shears as Kevin, another sub.

Following its premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, where it won Best Screenplay and the Palm Dog, the romantic dramedy has received universal critical acclaim for Lighton’s direction and the performances of Skarsgård and Melling, as well as its unexpectedly heartfelt love story.

Pillion will be released in the UK on 28 November – watch the trailer below.

The first trailer for A24’s queer BDSM romance Pillion has landed, and it’s equal parts raunchy and hilarious.

Directed by Harry Lighton, in his feature debut, the film follows Colin, a “weedy wallflower letting life pass him by,” and Ray, the “impossibly handsome leader of a motorbike club” he becomes the submissive to.

Henry Melling, known for his performance as Dudley Dursley in that wizarding franchise and Harry Baltic in The Queen’s Gambit, stars as Colin, while Ray is played by the True Blood and Big Little Lies icon Alexander Skarsgård.

Pillion’s official synopsis reads: “Ray uproots Colin from his dreary suburban life, introducing him to a community of kinky, queer bikers and taking all sorts of virginities along the way.

“But as Colin steps deeper into Ray’s world of rules and mysteries, he begins to question whether the life of a 24/7 submissive is for him. Has he found his calling, or simply swapped one form of suffocation for another?”

In the first trailer, set to Peggy March’s ‘I Will Follow Him’, Colin is caught off guard when Ray approaches him in a bar, setting the stage for their wild sub-dom dynamic.

Across a series of chaotic and hilarious scenes, Ray – serving a bit of Eric Northman! – refuses to let Colin sit beside him at dinner (saving the seat instead for his Rottweiler), Colin squeals in agony during a raucous wrestling match, and he’s even put to work running errands for Ray.

It culminates in a hilariously awkward moment when Ray instructs Colin to buy a butt plug because he’s “too tight,” prompting Colin to stammer: “Yeah, yeah, erm… lovely. That sounds like a plan… Bye then.”

Pillion premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it won Best Screenplay and the Palm Dog, and earned nominations for both the Caméra d’Or and Queer Palm.

Since then, it has garnered universal acclaim, holding a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the leads’ performances, Lighton’s bold direction and its unexpectedly tender love story.

Based on the novel Box Hill by Adam Mars-Jones, Pillion also stars Douglas Hodge as Pete, Lesley Sharp as Peggy, Anthony Welsh as Darren and Scissor Sisters star Jake Shears as Kevin, another sub.

It will be released theatrically in the UK by Picturehouse on 28 November.

Months before his death, Terence Stamp filmed scenes for a sequel to the iconic LGBTQIA+ film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Stephan Elliot, the writer and director of the 1994 classic, recently told Deadline that he persuaded Stamp to reprise his acclaimed role as transgender nightclub artist Bernadette. While the late actor was hesitant, Elliot promised it would not be a rehash of the original.

“So I came forward with something that is pretty special and unique,” Elliot revealed. “And that’s when I got him.”

The original film also starred Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce as drag queens Mitzi Bel Bra and Felicia Jollygoodfellow, who travel with Bernadette across the Australian outback in a tour bus named Priscilla.

The road comedy, which earned Stamp BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations, was praised for its groundbreaking depiction of trans women and drag queens, and has been credited with introducing queer themes to a mainstream audience.

Elliot, who also credits Priscilla with paving the way for queer media such as RuPaul’s Drag Race, explained that a sequel had been in the works “just before COVID, because it took me decades to find a plot and I found it”.

“But then COVID came along, and of course, we all lost ground, but it did give us the time to get the script underway. And as well you know, we have very big heels to fill, and we’ve been pretty much at it ever since,” he continued. “Terence wasn’t getting any younger, and that’s a fact he loved to shove down our throats almost every day.”

Deadline first reported news of the sequel in April 2024.

Elliot said discussions at the time involved “a lot of trial and error” over how Stamp’s character would look at 88 years old.

“So the clock clicked on, and then when the AI wars broke out, Terence was indignant that he didn’t want a digital clone of himself playing Bernadette,” he recalled. “He wanted the chance to put the character down himself. And I will quote him in this case. He said: ‘Just in case I don’t make the start line.’”

With the blessing of Stamp, his family, Weaving, Pearce and the financiers, Elliot decided to “pre-shoot all the Bernadette scenes.”

Sadly, Stamp passed away on 17 August, 2025, at the age of 87.

Elliot said of Stamp: “He was 87, turning 88… And I put him through a multi-cam shoot, spread over several grueling sessions. All I can say is, that the old trouper gave it everything he had. He hated putting the wig on again.

“But at the same time, my God, you could have bottled that smile. I mean, it was brilliant fun, and he really did have the time of his life. But calling ‘that’s a wrap’ on Terence Stamp… are going to be words that will haunt me to the day I die.”

His death was met with an outpouring of tributes from the entertainment industry and former co-stars, including Pearce, who posted a heartfelt farewell to his “dear Tel”.

“You were a true inspiration, both in and out of heels,” Pearce wrote on X/Twitter. “We’ll always have Kings Canyon, Kings Road and F’ing ABBA. Wishing you well on your way ‘Ralph’!”

Amie Stoppard, Stamp’s niece, shared photos of her late uncle in the makeup chair as he stepped back into Bernadette’s full glam.

She said he “poured his heart into this project before he passed,” working with “passion and determination to bring Bernadette’s spirit back to life, and this film became his swan song”.

“Though he is no longer here to see it completed, the sequel carries his talent and love within it,” Stoppard continued.

“It stands not only as a testament to his extraordinary career, but also as part of his enduring legacy in how Priscilla broke new ground and boundaries for the LGBTQ+ community — a story that was brought visibility, courage, and humanity to the big screen in ways that were ahead of their time.”

While Elliot remained tight-lipped on specifics, he described Priscilla 2 as a “very unusual” and “touching” film that explores “what it’s like to get old and to be either gay [and/or] trans” — a subject, he noted, that has “never been explored.”

A post shared by Amie Stoppard (@amieshoppit)

“I had to come to him with a plot that is a really good one. And when I came to [Stamp], he looked at me and said, ‘Okay, I didn’t see that one coming.’ So I brought him something completely original,” Elliot explained.

“At that point, he said, ‘Right, that’s the promise. I’ll do this because you’re going in a different direction. But at the same time, I will never let you just repeat yourself.’ None of us want that. And Guy doesn’t want that either, and Hugo either.”

Elliot confirmed that Stamp appeared in full costume as Bernadette for the shoot. He added that the role will inevitably require some CGI face replacement — “I’m going to have an actor playing Terence Stamp. I mean, it is scary” — and that he hopes filming for the sequel will begin in 2026.

Together has been pulled from Chinese cinemas after a local distributor edited a gay couple into a heterosexual couple.

In July and August, moviegoers in the US, UK, and Europe were treated to the highly anticipated body horror film, starring real-life married actors Alison Brie (Community) and Franco (Now You See Me).

Written and directed by Michael Shanks, the film follows Tim (Franco) and Millie (Brie), a couple who “find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other.”

The official synopsis adds: “With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love and their flesh.”

While Together has received widespread acclaim – earning a 90% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes– it was subjected to anti-LGBTQIA+ censorship during its early release in China.

Last week, the film went viral on social media after viewers realised that a gay couple in the original release were changed into a straight couple using AI editing.

Additional reports also stated that some of Together’s sex scenes were removed from the release.

“The horror film “Together” featured a gay couple in a peripheral role (see below) that got magicked into a straight couple in the Chinese edition,” one X/Twitter user wrote alongside a screenshot of the two scenes.

“No spoilers, but this definitely makes the film make less sense. One nuance is that Chinese movies are not rated for age. Maybe if it were, the same-sex pairing would have survived.”

On Douban, the Chinese equivalent of IMDb, some viewers expressed concerns over the AI edits, with one person writing: “This is infringement, right?”

Another person added: “The evolution to using AI to directly swap faces is truly terrifying… In the future, we won’t even know we’re watching the original film.”

On 24 September, the film’s global distributor, Neon, released a statement to Deadline condemning Chinese distributor Hishow for implementing the anti-LGBTQIA+ changes.

“Neon does not approve of Hishow’s unauthorised edit of the film and have demanded they cease distributing this altered version,” the company wrote.

As of this writing, Hishow has not addressed the controversy and the film is no longer screening in China-based theaters.

Together isn’t the first piece of LGBTQIA+ inclusive media to face censorship in China.

In 2018, Chinese broadcaster Mango TV cut Ireland’s performance from the Eurovision semi-finals due to the inclusion of two same-sex dancers.

That same year, the release of Bohemian Rhapsody was edited to remove elements concerning Freddie Mercury’s sexuality.

In 2021, the country’s top three streaming platforms – iQiyi, Tencent Video and Alibaba’s Youku – took out a segment from the Friends reunion that celebrated the show’s LGBTQIA+ fans.

Films like Alien: Covenant and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore have also faced censorship in China, with the majority of their queer content getting chopped.

Gelphie clash, share tender moments, and recreate their iconic dance in the epic Wicked: For Good trailer.

Based on Act Two of the stage musical, the blockbuster explores the estranged friendship between Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) after Elphaba reclaims her power and rebels against the villainous Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum).

Elphaba, now in the possession of the Grimmerie, continues in her mission to reveal the Wizard’s deception and champion the rights of Oz’s animals.

Following Madame Morrible’s slander at the end of Part One, however, she has become a social pariah and dubbed ‘The Wicked Witch of the West’.

At the same time, Glinda has become the “glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz,” which has her living in the Emerald City palace and serving as the friendly spokesperson and defender of the Wizard’s reign.

The synopsis adds: “As Glinda’s stardom expands and she prepares to marry Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) in a spectacular Ozian wedding, she is haunted by her separation from Elphaba. She attempts to broker a conciliation between Elphaba and The Wizard, but those efforts will fail, driving Elphaba and Glinda only further apart.

“The aftershocks will transform Boq (Tony nominee Ethan Slater) and Fiyero forever, and threaten the safety of Elphaba’s sister, Nessarose (Marissa Bode), when a girl from Kansas comes crashing into all their lives.”

In the final trailer, Morrible urges Glinda to “lift the spirits” of Oz’s citizens, before presenting her with the iconic pink spheric bubble and wand – which Glinda gleefully declares she’s “obsessulated” with.

A tornado whisks Dorothy Gale to Oz, where the Wizard tasks her, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion with retrieving Elphaba’s broom “so I have proof that she’s dead.”

Meanwhile, Gelphie can be seen clashing in a wand-vs-broom showdown along the Yellow Brick Road, before coming together to seemingly plot the Wizard’s downfall.

The trailer – which continues to tease highly-anticipated songs like ‘No Good Deed’ and ‘For Good’ – closes with Glinda turning to her best friend and saying, “Think of what we could do… together.

In addition to the aforementioned talent, Wicked: For Good will also see the return of Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Bronwyn James as ShenShen and Sharon D. Clarke as the voice of Elphaba’s childhood nanny, Dulcibear.

Wicked: For Good hits cinemas on 21 November.

Breaking queer news: Russell Tovey has revealed his favourite on-screen smooch.

On the latest episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the British actor was asked the question by a member of the audience (thank you to this anonymous person, from the entire LGBTQIA+ community).

Tovey, who appeared alongside Tom Blyth, his co-star in the upcoming gay romance Plainclothes, responded: “So I can’t say Tom?”

When Cohen noted that the duo “do pretty well” in the film, Tovey praised Blyth as a “beautiful” kisser with “very soft lips”. He added: “Yeah, he’s very, err… he looks after me,” leaving Blyth blushing.

Tovey also shared: “I quite enjoyed kissing Jonathan Groff in Looking. We did a lot of kissing in Looking, and we had a very nice time on that. I’ve been very lucky. I’ve kissed a lot of very attractive people, all genders.”

Plainclothes launched in the U.S on 19 September, and will receive a theatrical release in the UK on 3 October.

Set in 1990s New York City, the film follows Lucas (Blyth), a working-class undercover officer who is tasked with entrapping and apprehending gay men, only to find himself attracted to his target Andrew (Tovey).

Also starring Amy Forsyth, Christian Cooke, Maria Dizzia, John Bedford Lloyd, Gabe Fazio and Sam Asa Brownstein, the gay drama marks the feature-length directorial debut of Carmen Emmi, who also penned the screenplay.

Plainclothes premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it was met with positive reviews from critics. Tovey and Blyth’s performance were also singled out for praise.

In the first trailer, Lucas enters a men’s toilet to seduce and capture closeted gay men, but fails to do the same with Andrew.

The footage then follows Lucas as he’s torn between his duty as a plainclothes officer and his undeniable chemistry with Andrew — complete with a teaser of a raunchy sex scene and glimpses of Lucas’s growing paranoia about being outed.

Nicholas Hoult has dyed his hair blonde again, and it’s sparked a very thirsty response from the girls, gays and theys.

On 12 September, the Superman star took to social media to share a selfie of himself in a car.

In the snap, Hoult is sporting a jean jacket, a black pair of AirPods and a swoonworthy five o’clock shadow.

However, the most popular aspect of the photo has been the actor’s blonde hair, which he had in an ‘effortlessly sexy bed head’ style.

Of course, it didn’t take long for the selfie to make its way to X/Twitter, resulting in a plethora of fans sharing their feral and relatable reactions to Hoult’s new look.

“No man has ever looked this good with bleach blonde hair, thank you, Nicholas Hoult,” one gagged fan wrote.

Another fan joked that Hoult’s hottness was putting her heart at risk, writing: “I physically felt my heart skip a beat, and I’m so serious. Face card so legitimate that I’m risking cardiac arrest.”

A third person added: “If this was a Grindr pic, I’d be going to his apartment in a random neighbourhood at 3 am.”

This isn’t the first time that Hoult has gone viral in 2025. In July, he sent Gay Twitter into meltdown mode with his comments about his Superman co-star David Corenswet.

While chatting with Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast, the Warm Bodies star reminisced about a time his wife encouraged him to be “held by” Corenswet.

“I was chatting to my wife, and she was like, ‘It’s so nice to be held by someone bigger than you. You don’t really get that, do you?’ And I was like, ‘No, I guess I don’t,'” he revealed.

“And she was like, ‘David could hold you. And I was like, ‘Yeah, he probably could. I did [ask David] and it felt warm inside.”

Unsurprisingly, Hoult’s comments about Corenswet making his insides feel warm went viral for a handful of thirsty reasons: one, we’ve all seen Corenswet’s physique; and two, as a society, we still fall for the homoerotic bromance shtick!

Check out more reactions to The Great actor’s blonde selfie below.

Sydney Sweeney channels the legendary lesbian boxer Christy Martin in the first trailer for Christy.

Directed by David Michô, the upcoming biopic chronicles the life of the aforementioned boxer, who competed from 1989 to 2012 and held the WBC female super welterweight title in 2009.

The official synopsis reads: “Christy Martin never imagined life beyond her small town roots in West Virginia – until she discovered a knack for punching people.

“Fueled by grit, raw determination, and an unshakeable desire to win, she charges into the world of boxing under the guidance of her trainer and manager-turned husband, James.

“But while Christy flaunts her fiery persona in the ring, her toughest battles unfold outside it – confronting family, identity, and a relationship that just might become life or death.”

In addition to Sweeney, the cast includes Ben Foster as James, Merritt Weaver as Joyce Salters, Katy O’Brian as Lisa Holewyne, Ethan Embry as John Salters, Jess Gabor as Sherry Lusk, Chad L. Coleman as Don King and Tony Cavalero as James Maloney.

To the beat of Stevie Nicks’ iconic track ‘Edge of Seventeen,’ the first trailer opens up with Christy making her unforgettable entry into the boxing industry. As Christy’s career starts to gain traction, however, her personal life takes a dark turn – with her husband James soon becoming abusive.

“I need help, mama. He’s angry at me all the time,” Christy tells her mother, who responds, “Christy, you sound crazy.”

As the trailer progresses, we see the resilient athlete reclaim her power amid James’ increasingly violent behaviour.

“I’ve spent half my life hiding. It’s my house. It’s my things. It’s my gym,” Christy defiantly states.

The recent trailer comes a few days after the film made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Following its debut, Christy has received a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a handful of critics praising its gritty and emotionally charged story, as well as the performances of Sweeney and Foster.

While attending TIFF, the Euphoria star opened up to Variety about her transformation for the role, revealing that she gained 30 pounds with the help of a nutritionist, a weight trainer and a boxing trainer.

“We upped my calorie intake and I started taking a lot of protein shakes and supplements and eating everything,” she explained.

“I ate a lot of Smuckers, a lot of PB and J sandwiches, milkshakes, kind of just constantly always eating because we’re so active. I was constantly burning it all off at the same time. So keeping it all up was quite a challenge.”

Christy is set to hit US cinemas on 7 November and UK cinemas on 28 November.

New images have finally been unveiled of Alexander Skarsgård and Henry Melling in their gay BDSM romance, Pillion.

Harry Lighton (Wren Boys) makes his feature debut with the highly-anticipated drama, which chronicles the romance between Colin, a “weedy wallflower letting life pass him by,” and Ray, the “impossibly handsome leader of a motorbike club” he becomes the submissive to.

Melling, known for his performance as Dudley Dursley in that wizarding franchise and Harry Baltic in The Queen’s Gambit, stars as Colin, while Ray is played by the True Blood and Big Little Lies icon.

Until now, only one image from the film had been released – Skarsgård striding down the street in full leather, while Melling’s character gazes at him with a mix of admiration, lust and submission.

Now, Team Picturehouse have unveiled new stills (via the latest issue of Picturehouse Recommends): one captures Skarsgård fixing Melling with a smouldering stare, while another shows Melling at night clutching a blonde miniature dachshund.

In The Guardian’s review, writer Peter Bradshaw said Lighton has “created something funny and touching and alarming – like a cross between Alan Bennett and Tom of Finland with perhaps a tiny smidgen of what could be called a BDSM Wallace and Gromit.”

“It’s basically what Fifty Shades of Grey should have been,” he continued (we’re listening!), before revealing a scene in which Ray “orders Colin to meet him behind Primark at 5pm for a blowjob”.

Variety described the film as having “kinky sex, BDSM Alexander Skarsgård and gimp masks” in their headline, while The Hollywood Reporter said Pillion “is less about the shock factor of some very graphic gay kink than the nuances of love, desire and mutual needs within a sub/dom relationship”.

The same publication noted that Ray and Colin’s first sex scene is “less than stellar” as a result of the latter’s lack of experience. Other scenes they revealed include Colin “knitted out in ass-less wrestling gear” while wrestling Ray on the floor, being instructed to wear a butt plug and “getting vigorously plowed on a table”.

THR also said Pillion is “full of penises”, questioned whether or not they’re prosthetics, and ultimately praised the film as a “cheeky delight” and “unique queer love story”. Finally, Vanity Fair reported that Pillion “comes complete with orgies, cock rings and boot-licking”.
